P rogramming languages are essential tools used in developing software, websites, apps and other technological advancements. From the evolution of computer technology, programming languages have significantly developed with generations. Below is a brief history and evolution of the coding languages.  1. First-generation languages (1GL)  1GL was the first coding language introduced in the 1940s, used to control the ENIAC and UNIVAC 1 computers. These languages were machine dependent, which meant that the program written in one machine language could not run on other machines without modification.
